It is known in our region with different and humorous names such as Deli Fig, Thorn Fig, Mother-in-law Language. Mostly the fruit is known to be eaten, but the leaves and flowers have been used as staple foods in Central America for thousands of years. It is a source of fiber, vitamin C and calcium.

Preliminary preparation is not very difficult. After cleaning the needles, it is enough to remove the skin with a pumpkin peeler. It can be eaten raw in salads, in omelets such as menemen, by baking or frying. Even a simple juicy dish with the addition of roasted onions, cubed potatoes and grated tomatoes is enough for you to taste its different flavor. The rest is up to your muse.
